Seven female graduating students from Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, IMAP, Lafia, Nasarawa State, have been rusticated for their participation in an alleged “indecent” sign-out party.
The state-owned institution’s public relations officer, Mr. Ali Hassan Mohammed, made the announcement in a statement that was made public in Lafia on Friday.
The announcement states that the IMAP Academic Board decided to rusticate the pupils for one academic session during its meeting on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
Following the students’ alleged indecent exhibition, the institution’s reputation became tarnished during the sign-out party, leading to the rustication.
“The affected students, who have already been communicated with, are to resume in the 2023/2024 academic session with letters of undertaking to be of good behavior from their guardians or parents, serving as a deterrent to others.” Ali Hassan Mohammed said.
Dr. Justina Anjide-Kotso, the Polytechnic’s Rector, responded to the news by reiterating her dedication to maintaining the institution’s standards and academic quality.
Dr. Anjide-Kotso urged students to be committed to their studies and uphold discipline, making it apparent that her administration will not compromise on morality.
The incident gained public attention when images of the affected students, dressed inappropriately during a sign-out celebration months ago, went viral on social media, drawing criticism from Nigerians.
In reaction to the incident, the school administration has declared that sign-out festivities are not permitted on campus for the time being.
