SOS Children’s Village donates educational materials to Ogun school


IKIJA IJEBU (Sundiata Post ) – OgunSOS Children’s Village, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has donated educational materials to pupils of Community Primary School, Ikija in Ijebu-East Local Government Area of Ogun.
reports that the donation was in partnership with IUX Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, National Director of the village, Eghosa Erhumwunse, said the gesture was borne out of the need for children to access quality education even in remote areas.
Erhumwunse, who was represented by the Programmes Officer, Ayodeji Adelopo, said that it was not enough to provide education for the children, but also expedient to provide them with required materials and resources.
According to him, government is the “primary duty bearer” in the provision of basic educational services as welfare for children
He added that the donated materials was to complement government’s efforts in providing qualitative education and support for the children.
Erhumwunse further said the action would go a long way in motivating the pupils and help them achieve their goals.
He thanked IUX for partnering with them to give the pupils the needed support as part of activities to celebrate the 2025 Children’s Day.
“It is partners like IUX that make the work we do go to every corner of the country and to touch the lives of the children that are greatly in need
“Education is a fundamental right of the children and the children in this community are not also left out.
“Like we know, the government is the primary duty bearer when it comes to providing access to quality education.
“One of the things that our government owes the children is to ensure that they are able to access education just as they are safe and protected; they are not bullied and their rights are not violated.
” A lot of things go with education and that is why our organisations in partnership with IUX.
“We believe that for children to have access to quality education, it goes beyond coming to school, they need to have materials and resources required to receive lessons and to carry their items to school.
“One thing we can give to a child and nobody will take from them is quality education which puts them on a pedestal for a bright future,” Erhumwunse said.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Grace Oyewole expressed appreciation to the donors for the gesture.
She thanked them “for standing in the gap for the less privileged to ensure they have access to basic educational needs.”
She however, listed some other needs the school lacked to include a sick bay, mower, laptop, drum and football kits.
“I welcome the programme manager in partnership with IUX and the entire team of the SOS Management for your love and deep concern in development of Education and care for the less priviledge by standing in the gap to ensure they have access to the Basic Education.
The Zonal Education Officer, Mr Rasheed Okuboyejo, commended the organisations for the donation, which he said would encourage the pupils to take education seriously.
In his remarks, Oba Anthony Olukayode, the Alakija of Ikija, represented by Chief Mrs Adejoke Obikoya, thanked the donors for constantly supporting his community through their massive donations to many schools in the community.
reports items donated include :150 school bags and lunch bags, lunch boxes, exercise books and writing materials among others.
SOS Children’s Village had also in April, inaugurated two blocks of two toilets in the school. (NAN)
