Strange disease kills one student in Sokoto boarding school

At least one student has been confirmed dead and several others hospitalized following the outbreak of an unknown disease at the Government Girls College Sokoto.

Earlier reports had suggested that the outbreak at the school is meningitis and has killed an unspecified number of students, but the Sokoto state Director of Public Health, Ahmed Abdulrahman dismissed the claim.

Mr. Abdulrahman confirmed to newsmen that over thirty students were admitted at the state-owned Specialist hospital as a result of the outbreak, adding that the reported dead student was not part of the students admitted in the hospital.

According to Abdulrahman, all thirty students admitted were treated and discharged, and the state ministry of health has taken samples from the victims to investigate the nature of the ailment.

He condemned the school management for delaying to report the first case that eventually led to dead
