Temitope Ayeobasan, 21, becomes LASU’s first ever First Class graduate in history after 40 years

Temitope Ayeobasan, 21, is the first First-Class Honours graduate in History and International Studies from Lagos State University (LASU) in 40 years. The Senate officially confirmed her achievement early Friday.

Professor Adeyeri Olusegun, Head of the History and International Studies Department emphasised the importance of this achievement, citing Ayeobasan’s dedication since her first year. “She deserves it,” Professor Adeyeri stated. “This is the first of its kind since the school’s inception in 1984.”

Ayeobasan, who had originally planned to pursue law, revealed that her path changed unexpectedly when she fell in love with history. Reflecting on her academic career, she stated, “I never planned to study history, but circumstances led me here, and I’m glad I stayed. Although I wasn’t sure about achieving a First Class, my mantra, ‘Whatever’s worth doing at all is worth doing well,’ kept me going.”

Despite obstacles such as multiple examinations on the same day and extensive class hours, Ayeobasan’s determination paid off, earning her a place in LASU’s history books.
