It wouldn’t be out of place to be disquieted by the glaring rise in reports of suicide by students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. There have been reports of over 10 suicide cases across various campuses in the space of one month. Suicide seems to be becoming a trend among Nigerian students which is disappointing to say the least.
Pressure from academics, relationship (heart-break) trauma, anxiety, have been the reasons behind some of the cases reported. However, whatever the underlying causes may be, it is more than obvious for the need for the federal government, academic associations like ASUU, NANS, and the likes to sit down and find solutions to student suicide in our institutions.
A Student of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Chukwuebuka Akachi, was reported to have committed suicide

Though the reason for his action are not clear, he left a suicide note in his Facebook wall before taking a bottle of Snipper, he was rushed to UNN medical center before finally taken to University teaching hospital where he has been reported dead.
