UCH Power Outage to Be Resolved, Adelabu Appeals to Protesting Students

On Monday, the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, engaged with students from the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, who were holding a peaceful demonstration against the ongoing power outage.
Since October 2024, the hospital has been disconnected from the electricity grid by IBEDC due to an alleged outstanding debt amounting to approximately N500 million.
The students participating in the protest demanded that UCH be reconnected to the power grid immediately and called for the enforcement of a 50% tariff reduction, which they claim the Minister had previously assured the hospital.
In response, Adelabu urged the students to embrace dialogue and suggested a settlement between IBEDC and UCH to resolve the issue.
During the protest, the students displayed placards with various messages, including “+100 Days of Darkness: Save UCH; Save ABH Hall; Save Falade Hall; Give Us Light; This Is Not How We Want To Live; Medical School Is Hard Enough—Give Us Light; All We Are Saying, Give Us Light,” among others.
