Over 700 students from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) have submitted a petition to the Sokoto zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urging an investigation into Abubakar Muhammad Salame, the Special Adviser on Students’ Matters to the state governor.
The students claim that Salame did not fulfill his promise to cover their tuition fees and suspect potential misappropriation of funds intended for this purpose.
The students, who are residents of Sokoto State, have also appealed to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, seeking his assistance in ensuring the payment of their fees to support their education.
Usman Yahuza, a representative of the group, stated that the state had initially approved tuition payments for 5,994 students, with 5,290 registrations completed, leaving 704 students without coverage.
Yahuza highlighted that while some students managed to continue with temporary identification, others were forced to defer or withdraw due to financial difficulties.
In response, Salame indicated he would address these allegations at a later time.
