In its 2023 Indigent Students Scholarship Award, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) chapter, yesterday granted scholarships to six brilliant, indigent university students.
Following the presentation of the awards to the recipients, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, Chairman of the ASUU UI chapter, said that the recipients were divided into two categories: the ASUU National Award and the ASUU UI branch Award.
He further stated that two of the recipients received N200,000 each for the national category, while the remaining four received N100,000 each for the branch award.
He said that the recipients were selected after receiving approval from the union’s evaluation committee, which was made up of ASUU members from all of the institution’s faculties.
He added that the beneficiaries were chosen based on indigency and brilliance.
Akinwole revealed that the award, which commenced in 2018, was a component of the unions’ effort to mould sound minds and guarantee that the education of exceptional indigent pupils remains unhindered.
He stated that in spite of the difficulties the union was facing, it made the decision to support the institution’s efforts to educate underprivileged pupils.
The union’s Ibadan Zone Chairman, Prof. Oyebamiji Oyegoke, was present when the checks were delivered.
