UI Students Applaud Adelabu for Resolving UCH Power Outage

Students at the University of Ibadan (UI) have praised the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, for his efforts in resolving the extended power outage affecting the campus.

His intervention resulted in the reinstatement of electricity at the university’s College Hospital (“UCH”).

Mr. Bolaji Tunji, who serves as the Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations to the Minister of Power, announced this in a statement released in Abuja on Monday.

The letter of appreciation was jointly signed by the Student Union President, Aweda Bolaji, and the General Secretary, Ogundijo Japheth.

The students acknowledged the minister’s quick action in addressing the power issue.

“The amiable power minister has demonstrated his commitment to keeping his word,” they stated.

“All students of the university expressed their sincere appreciation for your swift intervention,” they added.

They confirmed that electricity has been restored to “UCH” and reconnected to the residence halls: “Alexander Brown Hall” and “Ayodele Falase Hall.”

“Your prompt response demonstrates your value for Nigerian students,” the letter further read.

Additionally, the students appealed to the minister for further support in improving campus lighting.

“They humbly asked for the donation of 150 solar-powered streetlights to illuminate ‘Barth Road’ (the longest road on campus), ‘Tech Road,’ and other frequently travelled pathways used by students for classes and night reading,” they wrote.

According to them, “this initiative will significantly enhance security and ensure a safer environment for all.”

Mr. Tunji also noted that the students sought the minister’s assistance in acquiring a 10 “Kilo Volt Ampere (KVA)” solar energy system for the Students’ Union building.

He explained that installing the solar system would lessen reliance on the national grid and help reduce the impact of unstable electricity.
