UI Students to Hold Peaceful Protest Over Blackout
The University of Ibadan students’ union is preparing to stage a peaceful protest after their 7-day deadline to the federal government to resolve the ongoing blackout at the University College of Medicine (UCH) in Ibadan passed without action.
The student union, led by its president, Aweda Bolaji, will gather at the main gate of UCH at 7am on Wednesday, January 22.
In a statement, Aweda announced: “Following the expiration of our 7 days ultimatum to the federal government of Nigeria to address the blackout at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, we are inviting you to a peaceful demonstration.”
He continued, “As an act of solidarity with our fellow students in Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Postgraduate hall who have experienced blackout for 80days now.”
“Please join us tomorrow morning by 7am for this demonstration from UCH down to Secretariat.”
