Friends and friends of Works Minister David Umahi have stated that he is deserving of the Doctorate Honoris Causa given by Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. They stated the minister’s track record as a public servant distinguished him as an achiever.
The award ceremony, held on April 20 at the university’s main campus, drew prominent Nigerians from various walks of life. They included Lamido Sanusi, the former Emir of Kano, and Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of Heirs Holding.
Well-wishers hailed Umahi as a go-getter who made his mark wherever he was called to serve, from the private to the public sectors; from his time as governor of Ebonyi State to his current post as Minister of Works.
A former Commissioner for Information in Ebonyi State and incumbent Special Adviser on Media to the minister, Uchenna Orji, described Umahi as a life coach and a benefactor of immeasurable value.
“It is heartwarming and indeed gratifying that your transformational records as governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023 were recognised, honoured and celebrated even beyond the contemporaries of leadership history.
“A great achiever and master strategist, a game changer, the great conqueror; innovation is your passion and industry is your flavour.
“We feel most obliged to identify with you always and to share in the testimonies of your innumerable contributions to the advancement of our state and humanity,” Orji said.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Community Engagement in the Southeast, Chioma Nweze, noted that Umahi’s evident track records as a former governor of Ebonyi State were clear for all to see.
“The scorecards, the legacies, and the standards you left behind underscore you as an innovative lord, a master planner, and a trailblazer. Your contributions are felt daily and your impacts on the state looming,” she noted.
The Federal Government road contractors, among others, also sent congratulatory wishes to the minister.
