UNIBEN Admits 170 Students Into Affiliate Degree Programmes with FCET, Akoka

The University of Benin (UNIBEN), located in Edo State, has officially admitted 170 students into various degree programmes through its academic affiliation with the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, situated in Lagos, for the 2024/2025 session.
The matriculation ceremony was held recently at the large multi-purpose auditorium of FCE(T), Akoka, and had in attendance the Vice-Chancellor of UNIBEN, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, who was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Osamede Omorogiuwa, alongside the Acting Provost of FCE(T), Dr. Oluwatoyin Miller, prominent members of the college’s management, and parents.
At the event, the vice-chancellor offered motivating advice to the new students, encouraging them to remain committed to their academic work while also participating in enriching extracurricular activities.
He also reminded them to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices their families made to ensure their education.
Prof. Omoregie gave assurance that FCE(T) was fully equipped to provide them with an excellent academic environment, comparable to what students enjoy at the main UNIBEN campus in Benin City. He noted that they would graduate as well-rounded educators ready to compete and contribute meaningfully both nationally and globally.
He further highlighted the high standards of the training and the value of the certificates they would receive, describing them as clear proof of the students’ dedication and perseverance.
He also underlined the need for students to obey the rules and policies of FCE(T), which are closely aligned with those of UNIBEN.
He warned the students against getting involved in misconduct such as exam cheating or cult-related activities, emphasizing that both institutions are deeply committed to fostering a secure and respectful academic setting.
In his remarks, the Acting Provost, Dr. Oluwatoyin Miller, revealed that of the newly admitted students, 123 are entering directly into 200-level as direct entry students in different programmes, while the remaining are beginning at 100-level.
Dr. Miller urged the students to uphold high academic and personal values. He pointed out that the partnership between UNIBEN and FCE(T) was centered on delivering top-quality education to young people who would eventually pass on their knowledge.
He said, “University education is an inheritance parents should yearn to bequeath to their children. Therefore, your parents, in furtherance of their struggle to ensure they give you a sound education, have succeeded in taking you to another level of your educational pursuit.”
“The onus is on you all to reciprocate their gesture through commensurate efforts and results to justify their investments in you.”
“You are, therefore, enjoined to work hard, and there is a synergy between hard work and godliness. If you read well and pray, the end result will be a success.”
“Today’s matriculation provides an opportunity for you, our freshers, who have gained admission into various programmes, to be officially inducted as students of the academic community. This ceremony is solemn, as it requires you to pledge your allegiance to the authority of the college,” he added.
The Acting Provost congratulated the fresh students on their successful admission and assured them that the college was prepared to support them with outstanding facilities for a rewarding and enjoyable learning experience.
The key moment of the matriculation event was the taking of the Matriculation Oath and the signing of the official Matriculation Register.
