UNIBEN shuts down Faculty of Veterinary Medicine over failure to meet standards

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria has officially closed the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Benin in Edo State, citing the institution’s failure to achieve the necessary standards for administering Veterinary Medicine programs.

This was confirmed by Dr. Aishatu Abubaka-Baju, President of Nigeria’s Veterinary Council and a serving Assistant Inspector General of Police. She made the statement during an interview with the media on the sidelines of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association’s 60th Annual Congress, which was held in Jos, Plateau state.

Dr. Abubaka-Baju stated, “We have just returned from the University of Benin, along with other universities. We have shut down the Veterinary Medicine program at the University of Benin due to non-compliance with required standards, meaning it can no longer admit students. Meanwhile, the University of Abuja has been granted interim accreditation, and the council will reassess the in two years.”
