UNICAL 36th Convocation: Kukah tasks graduands on hard work for prosperity
THE (Sundiata Post) – Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has urged graduating students of the University of Calabar to embrace hard work in order to earn a prosperous future.
Kukah gave the advice on Friday in Calabar while delivering the 36th convocation lecture on the university titled: ā€¯Harmonising Diversity for National Developmentā€¯
Kukah said that hard word and determination remained veritable tools for success in life.
ā€¯As you leave the university, we expect that you should get involved in making Nigeria better.
ā€¯There is no substitute to hard work and determination, you need them as you grow in life,ā€¯ he said.
The clergy urged youths to take steps towards harmonising the diversity of the nation in the interest of national development.
ā€¯As citizens of this nation, we have to learn the art of managing our diversities, this will enable us to develop faster.
ā€¯We should muster the sensitivity to identify the qualities in other people and make the most of them,ā€¯ he said.
Kukah said that the political class should use their privileged positions to promote the welfare of the people.
ā€¯Avoid using the opportunity of your position to only privilege your own people. Else, you put them into a line of hostility as others will begin to hate them directly or indirectly,ā€¯ he said.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, thanked the guest lecturer for honouring the universityā€™s invitation.
She said that the university would continue to promote academic excellence under her watch.(NAN)
