In partnership with the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency trained 2,260 teenagers on gender-based violence (GBV).
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Thursday, Hajiya Fadimatu Hamman-Joda, the state’s Programme Officer for Adolescent Youths and Sexual Reproductive Health, disclosed the information.
She added that 10 people were registered from each of the state’s 226 electoral wards and that the trainees had been carefully chosen from among them.
She clarified that the participants had received education about the risks associated with deviant behaviours, such as drug and alcohol misuse, rape, and needless quarrels among others.
The trainees, she said, would be deployed to the 21 local government areas of the state to use the knowledgeacquired to mobilise 2,203 adolescents.
She pointed out that “the programme targets to cover 4,000 adolescents by the year 2024.”
She, however, said inadequate logistics was affecting implementation of the programme.
She lauded the state government and UNICEF for supporting the programme.
