Rosita Igwe, Professor of Curriculum and Pedagogy at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has called for a review of the university’s Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), with a focus on skills and expertise.
She also asked the National Universities Commission (NUC) to prioritise the establishment of curriculum and research centres in universities to enable research activities and update curriculum-related concerns.
She recently delivered the university’s 23rd inaugural lecture for the 2023/2024 academic session, sharing her thoughts and perspectives.
She talked on the topic of ‘No Curriculum, No Education: Demystifying and Deconstructing the Myth,’ highlighting the importance of curriculum as the foundation and determinant of quality education.
She emphasised the importance of keeping every stakeholder involved in curriculum formulation and reforms up to date on curriculum development trends to evolve a robust, resourceful, and more effective curriculum system that will ensure the training of efficient manpower and drive overall education sector development.
Igwe equally took time to re-conceptualiseevolve a curriculum, stressing its indispensability in education development.
She also urged all levels of government to use curriculum expertise to oversee effective planning and execution of curriculum-related activities.
