UNILAG refutes claims of delayed NELFund loan reimbursements to students

The University of Lagos has denied circulating online claims that there is a delay in reimbursing students who paid their required fees before the institution received funds from NELFund.

The school’s Head of Communication Unit, Mrs Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, rejected the allegation in a statement issued on Thursday.

Alaga-Ibraheem explained, “Refunds are typically processed after reconciliation and verification with NELFund.”

She added, “So far, three tranches of NELFund loans have been received by the university, and beneficiaries across the first two batches have been successfully reimbursed.”

She further stated, “For the third batch, which was received towards the end of April, we are currently collating and reconciling students’ payment details.”

Alaga-Ibraheem gave assurance that all refunds would be handled in line with the proper procedures.

She stated, “The university management remains committed to its core values of transparency, accountability, and student-centred service delivery.”

She encouraged students to benefit from the available loan option by saying, “We implore our students to take advantage of the NELFund loan facility, and contact the NELFund help desk at our Student Affairs Division for prompt assistance and resolution on any complaint.”
