UniMaid names Mohammed Mele as substantive Vice-Chancellor
The University of Maiduguri’s governing board has approved Mohammed Mele’s appointment as substantive vice-chancellor.
The council made the announcement on Wednesday in Maiduguri, through the university’s registrar, Ahmad Lawan.
He stated that the development followed the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board’s recommendations.
“The Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri, at its special meeting held on Wednesday, 18th September 2024, has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele as the substantive vice-chancellor of the University.
“This followed the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, which interviewed four applicants for the post. The appointment takes effect on Wednesday, 18th September 2024.
“Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele is a distinguished scholar of English Language and Linguistics with over two decades of dedicated service in teaching,” the statement said.
Until his appointment, Mr Mele served as the university’s interim vice-chancellor and held a number of academic and administrative positions, including deputy vice-chancellor (Central Administration).
Mr Mele is from Mafa Local Government Area in Borno.
