UNIMED offers automatic employment to three best graduating students
Three of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) best graduates for the 2022–2023 academic year have been offered automatic employment by the institution’s management.
The students were Michael Aremu, the best male graduating student, Miss Marcy Saba, the best female graduating student, and Miss Francisca Aemulegun, who received a first class in physiology.
Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, the vice chancellor of the institution, declared during the university’s 5th convocation event that the institution was dedicated to helping the recipients continue their study.
According to Prof. Fatusi, 19 out of 528 graduates received first class degrees, 217 received second class upper degrees, 94 received second class lower degrees, and 15 received third class honours.
According to Fatusi, the institution will not give up on promoting the development of African herbal medicine. He stated that the institution thought it was time to stop the shameful neglect for the huge untapped potential of Africa’s God-given heritage.
According to the UNIMED VC, African medicine could open doors for Nigeria and other African nations to significantly contribute to global medication development and health advancement.
In order to hasten the institution’s development, Prof. Fatusi urged the state government to provide extra funding and attention.
He said: “The government needs to help ensure that UNIMED continues to be a TETFUND beneficiary institution. So far, TETFUND has been the main source of funding UNIMED’s infrastructural deficits.
“As a specialised University, UNIMED has the highest need for developmental projects and resources.”
The governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced that N1 billion will be set aside for the establishment of a Senate building on the university’s main campus.
Governor Aiyedatiwa said he was committed to taking the developmental agenda of the state to the next level.
Kola Olugbodi, the CEO of Background Check International, gave the convocation speech and encouraged the graduates to look for chances in the untapped areas of innovation in the nation.
He exhorted the youthful graduates to see economic difficulties as an opportunity for innovation and to come up with original ideas to improve healthcare delivery.
He said: “There are lots of good things happening in Nigeria. Anytime you see a society where things are not working, that is a society with lots of opportunities. There are opportunities here. Let’s stay here. We have entered into the age of entrepreneurship. Begin to think entrepreneurship.”
