UNIOSUN appoints 27 new teaching assistants
The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has appointed 27 new teaching assistants as part of a strategic strategy to develop the next generation of academics and excellent researchers.
This decision is in line with the university’s objective of promoting academic excellence and providing postgraduate students with the skills and knowledge required for success in both academic and professional settings.
According to a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the selection procedure, which took place between May and June 2024, requested applications for Teaching Assistantship posts at Grades I and II.
“These positions were specifically open to postgraduate students enrolled in PhD and academic master’s programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session.”
The Postgraduate College, which oversees the program, received 32 applications, with 18 candidates applying for Grade I positions and 14 for Grade II. After a thorough screening process, 16 individuals were chosen for Grade I, and 11 for Grade II. The rigorous selection procedure ensured that the successful candidates not only had a thorough mastery of their specialised fields, but also had strong general knowledge, high character, articulate communication skills, and a firm commitment to academic success.
The Provost of the Postgraduate College, Professor Siyan Oyeweso, said, “The Postgraduate College is happy to conduct the screening and select the best candidates for the award”.
The newly appointed teaching assistants will help develop teaching materials and deliver course content while also pursuing their own academic studies.
Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor commended the successful candidates on their accomplishments and encouraged them to continue learning and adapting. He emphasised the critical role they will play in tackling societal concerns and advised them to be focused on their academic and professional development.
