UNIPORT Denies Claims of Snake Worship on Campus

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has denied social media rumours alleging that a big snake was killed in one of its classrooms and worshipped as a deity.

In a statement released by its Head of Information, Publications and Public Relations, Dr. Sammy Kpenu, the university described the claims as “completely false, unfounded and fabricated by troublemakers.”

UNIPORT reassured the public that such an incident did not happen on its campus. He stated, “No snake was sighted, no snake was harmed, and no incident of that nature occurred anywhere within the university grounds.”

According to the university, the circulation of these false claims appears to be the work of individuals seeking social media attention, thereby threatening the peace and reputation of the institution.

The university’s management advised the general public, staff, students, and stakeholders to disregard the false news and avoid spreading misleading information.

Kpenu stressed that the university is tracking and reporting those responsible for the misinformation to the proper authorities. He affirmed that UNIPORT remains committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and enabling environment for learning, research, and all legitimate activities.
