42 senior academics have been upgraded to the level of professor by the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), while 23 others have been promoted to associate professor.
The new professors met the university’s strict selection standards, according to a statement released in Port Harcourt on Tuesday by Dr. Sam Kpenu, Public Relations Officer of UNIPORT.
The advancements were made when the Education Minister gave his permission on December 8.
“The academics were promoted following the recommendations of the UNIPORT Central A & PC Academic meeting on Nov. 23.“The university hereby announces the promotion of 42 staff nominated as Professors of their various disciplines and 23 others as Associate Professors (Readers),” he said.
According to a breakdown of the promotions, the faculty category now includes 10 new professors from the Faculty of Education, 10 from Faculty of Science, 8 from the Faculty of Humanities, 8 from the College of Health Sciences, 3 from the Faculty of Agriculture, 1 from the Faculty of Engineering, 1 from the Faculty of Social Science, and 1 from the Faculty of Management Sciences.
Faculty of Education produced seven new readers in the Associate Professor (Readers’) category, followed by Faculty of Humanities with five and Faculty of Science with three.
Additional faculties include two each from the Engineering and Science faculties, two from the College of Health Sciences, one each from the Faculty of Agriculture and Computing.
