Candidates wishing to enrol at the University of Ibadan (UI) through its Open Distance eLearning mode have been reassured by Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Vice Chancellor of the institution, that they will enjoy the same rights and benefits as their counterparts on the main campus.
He claimed that after completing their courses, distance learning students would get the same certificate as their on-campus counterparts and would be qualified for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) just like their counterparts in regular mode.
Speaking to reporters in Ibadan, Adebowale mentioned that candidates could choose between the more traditional, physical classroom setting that required the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or the more flexible, online-and offline-coordinated learning opportunities provided by UI DLC, but did not require UTME.
His reassurance reaffirmed UI’s dedication to diversity and fair chances for all students, irrespective of their course of study.
“There will be no distinction between DLC students and their counterparts on the main campus. They will have access to the same quality of education, same resources and same opportunities,” Adebowale said.
Prof. Babatunde Omobowale, Director of UI DLC, stated that the Centre had increased access to quality education for working professionals, entrepreneurs, and those living in remote areas, as well as become a beacon of hope for those seeking higher education despite physical or logistical challenges.
