UTME Glitches: Muslim Group Says JAMB Registrar Should Be Applauded, Not Criticized

The Muslim Ummah of the Southwest of Nigeria has declared that the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, should be praised rather than blamed.

MUSWEN, which is the central body representing all Muslim organisations and associations within the South-West geopolitical zone, made this statement in light of the technical issues that disrupted parts of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement issued on Friday, signed by Rasaki Oladejo and Prof. Muslih-Tayo Yahya, who serve as President and Executive Secretary respectively, the organisation said that “it stands in solidarity with Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.”

The statement acknowledged that candidates, parents, and other stakeholders had valid concerns regarding the disruptions that arose from computer network problems during the UTME. However, it urged caution before questioning the credibility or dedication of the present leadership at JAMB.

According to the group, “Prof. Oloyede has, over the years, distinguished himself as a man of immense capacity, transparency, and accountability. Since assuming office, he has restored confidence in the examination body, improved institutional efficiency, returned billions of naira to the national treasury, and embraced technology as a tool for sanitising the conduct of public examinations.”

They appealed to all concerned parties—including the press, civil society groups, and decision-makers—not to give in to those who attempt to take advantage of setbacks to discredit institutions or target public officials unfairly.

MUSWEN emphasized the need for a calm and constructive response, along with institutional backing to allow JAMB to continue its reform agenda in a manner that reflects “justice and fairness.”

It added, “Prof. Oloyede deserves commendation, not condemnation. The glitches, though regrettable, do not define his track record—they merely remind us of the continuous work needed in building resilient institutions in our country. May Allah (SWT) continue to guide, protect, and strengthen all public servants working conscientiously for the betterment of our nation.”
