VC wants FG support private varsities for human capital development
SANGO OTA (Sundiata Scholar) – The Vice-Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, has appealed to the Federal Government to support private universities for enhanced development of human capital.
Ojediran made the appeal at a news conference on Thursday in Ota ahead of the 16th convocation ceremony of the institution scheduled to end on Nov. 2.
The vice-chancellor said that private universities had made remarkable impacts locally and internationally as their graduates were doing well in their various spheres.
Ojediran stressed the need for the Federal Government to see private universities as partners in manpower development.
“The Federal Government needs to encourage private universities to contribute their quotas, as establishment of a university is capital intensive.
“We have continued to produce competent graduates who are employers of labour and compete favourable at the international level.
“We produce quality manpower for the development of Nigeria, and our products perform excellently,” he said.
He emphasised the need to include private universities in the Tertiary Education Trust Fund scheme, saying that the Federal
Government remained the major beneficiary of graduates from private universities.
Ojediran reiterated the commitment of Bells University of Technology to impacting positively on the nation’s development.
He said that private universities operated within the same landscape as public ones, adding that the entrance of private investors into the educational landscape was basically not for profit.
Ojediran said that the entrance was due to love for Nigeria and the desire to contribute positively to its human capital development.
reports that 969 students comprising of undergraduates and postgraduates will be graduating from the university in 2023/2024 academic session. (NAN)
