The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has blacklisted 13 schools and 14 supervisors in Kogi State for their alleged involvement in examination malpractices.
This development was disclosed by the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, during a meeting in Lokoja with principals and supervisors implicated in the malpractice cases.
Hon. Jones reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractices, stating: “Any principal, teachers, and supervisors who aid and abet examination malpractices will henceforth be prosecuted in accordance with Kogi State Education Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2020.”
Highlighting the gravity of the issue, Jones affirmed that examination malpractice is a criminal offence and those found guilty will face legal consequences.
To address the situation, the commissioner announced the formation of a committee led by the Permanent Secretary to thoroughly investigate those indicted by WAEC.
“Kogi State Government has invested so much in education and will no longer tolerate the attitude of some bad eggs drawing back the gains already made in the education sector. Whoever is promoting examination malpractices is an enemy of Kogi State and must be kicked out of the system,” he stated.
Additionally, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr Jibrin Seidu Alhaji, urged principals and supervisors to refrain from activities that could tarnish the reputation of the state.
This decisive action underscores the state’s commitment to maintaining integrity within its education system and ensuring a fair learning environment for all students.
