Why ASUU Remains Silent on UNIABUJA’s Leadership Dispute
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has explained why it has not yet issued a public statement regarding the controversy surrounding the appointment of a vice chancellor at the University of Abuja.
ASUU is widely recognized for publicly expressing its position on issues related to vice chancellor appointments, particularly in federal universities, such as the case of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, last year.
Six students from the University of Abuja have been awarded research grants totaling N5.4 million.
During an exclusive interview with the media, the union’s president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, was asked about ASUU’s stance on the leadership crisis at UNIABUJA.
In response, he clarified that the union is indeed concerned about the situation but is currently conducting a thorough investigation, examining all perspectives to ensure that it gathers accurate information before making a public statement.
He stated, “ASUU acts only on facts and so, we are still looking at all sides to obtain accurate facts before we make a public statement on the matter.”
