FG says international scholarship recipients will be paid stipends soon
The Federal Government has pleaded for calm amid protests by Nigerian students on international scholarships over unpaid stipends.
Professor Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, revealed this during a news conference in Abuja on Thursday to commemorate Commonwealth Day 2024.
Recall that the Union of Nigerian Students, through the Federal Government Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA) scholarship, had urged the Nigerian government to address the critical issue of unpaid stipends, which were causing extreme hardship for students.

Ayuba Yushau, spokesperson for the Coalition of All Nigerian Bilateral Education Agreement Student Association, stated that for the previous six to eight months, scholars enrolled at various institutions abroad have had financial difficulties due to the delay in getting their stipends.
Reacting to the development, Professor Mamman assured that the allowances would be paid soon.
“It is being processed. That is the information I have from the Secretariat. Nothing will be lost. Their allowance is being processed,” Prof. Mamman said.
