FG Earmarks N80 Billion for Construction of 4 New Institutions in Zaria
The Federal Government has initiated the construction of the Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery in Zaria, Kaduna State, as part of efforts to tackle the shortage of healthcare professionals.
In addition to the nursing college, three other institutions will be established: the Federal College of Education, the Federal Open University, and the Federal College of Legal Studies.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony in Zaria on Sunday, Abbas Tajuddeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, announced that the projects, scheduled for completion within 18 months, would require an investment of N80 billion.
Mr. Tajuddeen explained that the institutions were established following extensive assessments. He highlighted that the Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery aims to address the shortage of nurses and midwives in Kaduna State and across Northern Nigeria.
The Federal College of Legal Studies, he noted, is designed to enhance research in the field of law, while the Federal College of Education will train educators to meet the teaching demands of Kaduna and the Northern region.
The speaker also emphasised that the Federal Open University would provide flexible educational opportunities for workers and other citizens to advance their education with convenience.
He commended the Kaduna State Government for allocating land for the projects and its role in facilitating their commencement.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Tajuddeen participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the historic 188-year-old Malam Abdulkarim Zaria Central Mosque, which took place at the Emir of Zazzau’s palace in Zaria City.
