Benue SUBEB Resumes Teacher Recruitment Process

The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has received approval from the Benue State House of Assembly to initiate the hiring of over 9,000 teachers.

It will be recalled that the recruitment process was halted in December after a dispute between the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Mrs. Grace Adagba, and the State Assembly Ad-Hoc Committee headed by Hon. Cephas Dyako.

The committee was assigned to probe the process to determine if any laws were violated and if the Board adhered to proper procedures.

After conducting a thorough investigation, the committee cleared the Dr. Adagba-led Board and lifted the suspension on teacher recruitment in the state.

As per the findings of the House Ad-Hoc Committee, the existing laws permit the Board “to recruit, appoint, promote, and discipline teaching and non-teaching staff on grade levels 07 and above.”

The report revealed that 74,574 individuals applied for the recruitment, with 48,895 candidates taking part in the recent Computer-Based Test (CBT).

In light of this, the Board has resumed the recruitment process, which is now nearing completion with the screening of applicants who achieved the required cut-off marks.

A statement released by the Board’s Information Officer, Emmanuel Akese, praised the applicants for their patience throughout the process.

The statement also assured all applicants that the process would be conducted smoothly and transparently to ensure the provision of quality basic education.

According to the statement, the screening process will take one week, starting on January 10, 2024, and concluding on January 16, 2024, with applicants from the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) assigned specific dates for screening at the Board’s headquarters.
