Oyo in tandem with global educational development – Dep. Gov. Lawal

IBADAN (Sundiata Scholar) – The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, says the state is moving in tandem with global standards and trends in educational development.

Lawal said this in Ibadan on Tuesday during the distribution of computer tablets to 18,000 public school teachers.

The deputy governor said the tablets were meant to empower and equip public school teachers, emphasising that the state could not afford to remain analogue in a computer era.

“So, the distribution of these tablets to public school teachers, who will in turn be teaching our students in primary school and basic secondary schools, is in order.

“Each of the tablets is well packaged with several applications; all subjects are included in each of the tablets, whether you are a science or arts teacher.

“What the teachers need to do is just to open their tablets, tap the subject and begin to teach their students.

“This will further enhance the instructional capability of teachers and foster the capability of students to compete nationally and internationally,” Lawal said.

He appreciated the following stakeholders for making the initiative a reality: Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) and the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

He also praised the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to Gov. Seyi Makinde on Education Intervention, Mr Tiamiyu Suraj, said the government had devised means of monitoring the usage of the tablets.

“This is to make sure that teachers are teaching our students all the subjects that are included in the tablets, which are aligned with our curriculum in Oyo State,” he said.

reports that the deputy governor also flagged off a one-week computer training for the teachers. (NAN)
