NDLEA urges collaborative action to combat drug abuse in tertiary institutions

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has advocated for more proactive steps to combat drug abuse among tertiary institution students across the country.

Mr Ndubuisi Agabus, Keffi Area Commander, NDLEA, Nasarawa State, made the announcement during a chat with reporters in Keffi on Thursday.

Agabus, an Assistant Commander of Narcotics, stated that drug abuse among tertiary institution students in the area has become a major concern.

He stated that the agency has made significant efforts to combat drug abuse, addiction, and trafficking in the area.

“We have made several arrests, conducted sensitisation programmes and rehabilitated many drug addicts, yet the consumption of illicit drugs is still on the increase.

“The situation requires more proactive and collaborative actions by stakeholders, we need to work together in the interest of the future generation,” he said.

According to an NDLEA official, parents play crucial roles in the war against drug abuse and addiction among youth.

The commander also added that the agency was working with the management of tertiary institutions in the area to organise anti-drug awareness campaigns.
