NECO: Pupils burn principal’s house over ‘failure to register’ them after collecting money

Final-year pupils of Gyutiev Model College, located in Saghev Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, have allegedly set fire to the home of their principal, Mr. Isaac Yina.

The incident reportedly took place during the early hours of Friday.

The pupils claimed that the principal failed to register them for the 2025 National Examinations Council, NECO, examination, despite allegedly collecting N85,000 from each of the 178 pupils.

When the media contacted the Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, Udeme Edet, she stated that she had not yet received any official report on the incident.

She, however, gave her assurance to our correspondent, saying, “When I find out, I will let you know.”

In the meantime, Guma Local Government Area has recently been in the headlines following a deadly assault on the Yelwata community, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of more than 200 people.
