NICTM, UNIBEN top NANS quiz competition in Edo

The National Institute of Construction Technology and Management (NICTM), located in Uromi, emerged as the overall winner of the first-ever inter-school quiz contest organized by the Edo State chapter of the Joint Campus Council (JCC) under the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

The event featured institutions that demonstrated their understanding and intellectual strength while discussing the theme, “Safe Campus for Students: Combating Physical and Digital Threats.”

The quiz was hosted at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, and concluded with a draw between NICTM and the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

To settle the tie, the judges introduced an additional round, which resulted in NICTM claiming victory and taking home the top prize of ₦300,000.

UNIBEN students finished in second place and were awarded ₦200,000, while Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, secured the third spot with a reward of ₦100,000.

Effa Okim, the Acting Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Benin Zonal Directorate, encouraged students to use digital resources to gain knowledge, build businesses, and create positive change, rather than engaging in crime or manipulation.

Speaking on the subject, “Use the Cyberspace Positively”, Okim stressed that the internet is not only a space for entertainment but a valuable asset for growth and learning.

Comrade Jimah Mubarak, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Monday Okpebholo on Student Matters, stated that the administration is dedicated to making educational environments in the state secure.

He emphasized that Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda puts high priority on empowering youth, promoting education, and enhancing safety.

The Edo State Chairman of NANS JCC, Comrade Ojumoola Miracle, remarked that “intellectual excellence has became the new protest.”

He explained that the competition was designed to build a stage where academic achievement, deep reasoning, and purposeful dialogue could be recognized and appreciated among students in Nigeria.

“We believe that fostering a culture of scholarship and collaboration among students can combat many of the vices plaguing campuses today. This event was a call to elevate the standard of student unionism in Edo State,” he said.
