OPay, a prominent financial services provider in Nigeria, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Ibadan to launch a 10-year scholarship programme.
This initiative will provide N300,000 scholarships each year to 20 outstanding students, with a goal of supporting a total of 400 students across 20 Nigerian universities, including Ahmadu Bello University and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Through this commitment, OPay plans to invest N120 million annually, totalling over N1.2 billion over ten years, to help shape the next generation of leaders.
The MOU signing event took place at the University of Ibadan and included OPay representatives, university officials, and some scholarship recipients.
The Vice-Chancellor of UI, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, expressed his appreciation for the programme, describing it as a “beacon of hope” that will allow promising students to concentrate on their academic goals.
Dotun Adekunle, OPay’s CTO/COO, underscored the company’s commitment to supporting Nigerian students, stating, “OPay is honoured to partner with the University of Ibadan to support Nigeria’s future leaders. Through sustained financial aid, we aim to help students dedicate themselves fully to their studies and reach their full potential.”
