Mr. Joshua Daniel, a student at Veritas University in Abuja, died on campus while exercising in the school’s gym.
This comes as the university’s administration has committed to cooperate with competent authorities in the investigation into the student’s death.
Ben Agande, the institution’s Head of Corporate Affairs, said in a statement on Thursday: “On the 30th of April, 2024, one of our students, Mr. Joshua Daniel, while keeping fit at the University Gymnasium, unfortunately slumped, and all attempts by the medical team, led by the Chief Medical Director, to revive him failed.”
He stated that the student’s parents were immediately told of the unfortunate situation, and that the school administration notified the police.
“Our thoughts are with the parents of late Mister Daniel as well as the Head of Department and students of the Department of Computer Sciences over this unfortunate loss,” he said.
The university prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the student and extend its most sincere condolences to the parents.
“As a university, we will cooperate fully with the police, the parents of the deceased, and all relevant authorities to unravel the probable cause of death,” Agande said.
He pleaded with the media and members of the public to be respectful of the privacy of the late student’s parents at this trying moment while the police carry out their investigations.
