UNIZIK VC outlines moral standards to new students during matriculation ceremony

Professor Charles Esimone, the vice chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, outlined the requirements for new students to meet in order to succeed academically.

Among other things, Esimone stated at the university’s 2023–2024 matriculation ceremony that students need to pay the required fees in order to succeed.

According to Esimone, this is necessary for the institution to be able to maintain its current facilities and build new ones.

Esimone threatened that any student who failed to pay their tuition by the deadline would be barred from taking exams.

In addition, before being permitted to take exams, students have to have attended at least 75% of all lectures and practicals.

Exam misconduct can result in up to three years of suspension or possibly expulsion, therefore they must avoid it.

They have to avoid, among other things, forging certifications because doing so could result in their expulsion.

“Cultism is anathema in the University as all proven cultists are expelled.

“These and other deviant behaviours such as robbery, rape, and so on are not tolerated because they are both misconduct and crime punishable by expulsion from the University and terms of imprisonment by the State,” Esimone emphasised.

Esimone congratulated the graduates but also reminded them that this event officially ended the University’s acceptance of new undergraduate students.

He mentioned that Nnamdi Azikiwe University is ranked fifth in Nigeria and 501st globally.

It runs 15 Faculties and the academic programmes of which most are variously accredited with the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the relevant professional bodies.

It has linkages with many world-renowned Universities spread across the United State of America, China, Europe and Africa.
