Following the public outrage and backlash the proposed conference on witchcraft at UNN had caused, the institution have bowed to pressure from various Christian groups to get the event canceled. This comes after several explanation from a literary and social critic, Prof Ijioma who said the conference wasn’t about promoting witchcraft, but Nigerian Christians still continued to condemn and pray against the conference.
In order to avoid a scene and appease religious groups, the organizers have decided to change the theme of the conference. The new theme doesn’t include witchcraft, although witchcraft will still be discoursed at the conference.
