WAEC opens portal for WASSCE First Series

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has begun registration for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates 2020 First Series.

The First Series was introduced last year to give private candidates a second option to take the WASSCE after the August/September diet, now called Second Series.

A statement by WAEC’s Head of National Office, Olu Adenipekun, noted that the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2020 First Series would feature only 24 subjects and take place in mainly urban areas.

It advised candidates to check for available subjects and centres before registering.

“WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2020 – First Series would mainly be an urban-based examination.  Twenty-four (24) subjects would be available for the examination.  Intending candidates are advised to visit the Council’s corporate website – www.waecnigeria.org – to confirm available examination towns and subjects before obtaining the registration PIN,” the statement reads.

Candidates have until December 31, 2019 to complete normal registration for the examination which would hold between January and February 2020.

However, candidates would be able to register afterwards, under the window WAEC refers to as ‘Walk-in’ candidates – even up to 24 hours before the paper they seek to write – but for a fee of N25,000.
