UNILORIN Finishes Second Stage of Overlay Road Project




The second stage of a 500-metre asphalt overlay road project funded by the Federal Government has been finished by University of Ilorin administration.

The project, which is part of the FG’s 2022 Capital Appropriation Fund, will add 5.5 kilometres of asphalt to the existing road surface from the university’s entrance gate to the Senate Building Roundabout, in addition to phase one’s 1.3 kilometres from the school gate to a distance after the university’s Jalala Estate junction.

It is remembered that last May, the university completed a 1.3-kilometre asphalt replacement project after the approval and the distribution of funds for the project from the Federal Government capital projects fund.

Mr. Zulqarnayn Bolajoko of the University Works Department remarked during the Inspection/Handing Over meeting that more work will begin as soon as the Federal Government released funding. He continued by saying that the goal of the project was to strengthen and improve the flow of personnel and students to and from the school.

He said, “The University’s endeavour to make the roads motorable for commuters is the asphalt overlay, a Federal Government project.Mr Bolajoko, a Deputy Director at the Works Department, urged drivers to exercise caution, take safety precautions and refrain from speeding for their own safety.

In addition to the project, he revealed that the management had started patching potholes from the university’s Stadium Junction to Trini Hostel Junction through the area of the private hostel to the Faculty of Pharmacy.Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Abdullah Ogundeji, the Director of Physical Planning Unit (PPU) representative, commended the contractor for a job well done.
