ASUU Protests the Dangote University Governing Council’s Dissolution

Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has protested the Kano State governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decision to dissolve the institution’s governing council.

This information is found in a statement released on Wednesday in Kano by the chapter’s chairperson, Dr. Aliyu Ahmad, and secretary, Dr. Mudassir Nasir.

On May 29, Governor Yusuf dissolved the council, which the union deemed “inappropriate.”

The union expressed shock at the university, formerly known as Kano State University of Science and Technology, continuing to operate without a governing council as a result of the dissolution.

It claimed that the project violated and disregarded the 2017 Kano State University of Science and Technology (Amendment) Law’s requirements. Therefore, the union urged the governor to quickly reassemble the council “in order to prevent paralysing the university system.”

Additionally, it encouraged the state government to resolve the unpaid benefits owed to university employees.
