Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Emerges Winner in CIC National Engineering Competition




The Nigerian Genius (Campus Edition) 2023 team from Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos has won the second annual national engineering competition, which is hosted by the Clintonel Innovation Centre (CIC) in Aba.

A statement from Blessing Eke, Head of Marketing and Publicity at the Clintonel Innovation Centre (CIC), claims that Yaba College of Technology is now ranked #1 in engineering education for 2023 as a result of the triumph.

She mentioned that Nigeria’s most brilliant minds from tertiary institutions come together for the Nigerian Genius National Engineering Competition (Campus Edition) to tackle the country’s most difficult engineering and industrial problems. Students demonstrated their creative abilities, encountered real-world engineering problems, and picked the brains of professionals in the field throughout the competition.

In addition to promoting engineering education in Nigeria, the Nigerian Genius competition helps competitors strengthen their leadership skills, practical skills, and problem-solving talents.49 tertiary took part in the Nigerian Genius competition this year, and four finalists were chosen.

Based on their competition performance, the four finalists named are: Yaba College of Technology, which in 2023 received the top ranking for engineering education.In addition, the team received a second award for their final solution’s use of the most creative engineering design.

The second-ranked school was Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA). The People’s Choice Award was given to them. University of Uyo (UNIUYO) was awarded the Sustainability Award for their use of recycled materials in their final solution, and they were ranked third.

The Resilience Award was given to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), who came in at number four, for having the most resilient team.

The Nigerian Genius Engineering Competition’s ranking of tertiary institutions is based on a thorough assessment of the teams based on a variety of factors, such as engineering design and fabrication, teamwork, creativity, analytical thinking, engineering knowledge, problem-solving, soft skills, etc.
