167 pharmacy graduates from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Awka, and Anambra State have been inducted into the profession by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).
The highlight of the celebration for the induction ceremony was the induction, which happened on Saturday at the Juhel Auditorium, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Unizik Awka-Agulu Campus in the state’s Anoacha local government district.
The new pharmacists were the faculty’s 2021 and 2022 graduating class, revealed Prof. Chibueze Ihekwereme, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, in his welcome speech. He remarked that while the remaining graduates had passed, 67 of them were graduating with distinction, and that they had been thoroughly baked to veer into any human pursuit for survival and prosperity.
Oath-taking and induction are two of the main conditions outlined in the PCN Establishment Act that must be met in order to register as a pharmacist, according to PCN Registrar Ibrahim Ahmed.
In order to achieve excellence in the provision of high-quality pharmaceutical services for sustainable healthcare delivery in the nation, he asked them to uphold the high ethical standards and leadership abilities specified by the PCN.
“As pharmacists, you are expected to get yourself acquainted with the code of professional ethics, which prescribes your professional and moral responsibilities to patients, your pharmacist colleagues, other healthcare professionals, your employer, and the general public, among others.
“Anywhere in the world, the practise of pharmacy is dependent upon strict adherence to the code of ethics,” he stated.
The head of PCN cautioned the new members not to engage in unhealthy behaviours, stating that the Council disapproves of professional misconduct in its entirety.
He pointed out that in order to address cases of professional misconduct, the PCN Act established disciplinary tribunals and investigative panels.
