8 suspects arrested over Ekiti recent attacks

Eight people have reportedly been taken into custody by the Ekiti State Police Command in connection with the recent killing of two traditional leaders and the kidnapping of some school students.

Remember that on January 29, gunmen murdered Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, and Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Imojo.

Three teachers, a bus driver, and five students from the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools were abducted by the attackers when they attacked a school bus in the same area.

The suspects were taken into custody on Sunday after a combined operation that went through Emure-Ekiti Forest, Ise/Ogbese Forest, and Emure-Ile Forest in Ondo State, according to a statement released by the state police public relations officer, Abutu Sunday.

Abutu reported that members of the Agbekoya Group, including police officers and Amotekun Corps from Ondo State, vigilantes, local hunters, and police agents were all participating in the operation.

According to him, the suspects included Babusa Alhaji Lede, who was apprehended in the Ayedun/Ayebode Ekiti forest in the Ikole Area of the state, as well as Yaya Sumaila, Idrisu Abubakar, Hassan Abudullahi, Abudullahi Abudullahi, Haruna Abubakar, Usman Abudullahi, and Haruna Sule.

Abutu added that among the items taken from the suspects were food items, an axe, three cutlasses, a cow and a dagger.

He said: “The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and are giving credible information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing suspects that perpetrated the dastard acts.

“While the Command will not rest until the fleeing hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law, members of the public are hereby implored to be calm and support the Police with credible and timely information that could lead to the arrest of those behind these heinous acts and other criminal elements in the state.”
