Protests rock FUTA over persistent bandit attacks

In protest of ongoing bandit attacks on them outside the institution, students at the Federal University of Technology Akure in Ondo State have blocked the Akure-Ilesa highway.

The students bemoaned the constant robbery attacks they experience while living outside the university campus as they chanted solidarity songs during the demonstration on Friday. The protest led to heavy gridlock on the expressway.

According to the students, they organised a protest to demand that the government, the institution’s administration, and the security services do action to protect them from the bandits’ actions.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said men of the command had been deployed in the area to ensure the protest was not hijacked by hoodlums.
