Comrade Buhari Ari Ibrahim, often known as Bombay, the President of the Students’ Union Government at Nasarawa State University Keffi, NSUK, has been suspended indefinitely from office.
The Legislative Arm of the Union made this judgement on allegations of abuse of office and severe misbehaviour.
In a letter dated March 26, following an extraordinary plenary session held at the university’s Faculty of Law’s Moot Court, the legislature specified five offences as grounds for suspension.
According to the letter sent to the president, the suspension was carried out in accordance with the terms of Article Six, Section 5(2)(c) of the union constitution.
Among the offences stated, Buhari was accused of neglecting to provide enough procedures for the distribution of palliatives provided by the State Government to pupils.
He allegedly introduced a ‘palliative beneficiary card’ without engaging the Senate, leading to a fatal stampede that claimed the lives of students and left several others injured.
Other offences include failing to appear before a Senate investigation committee, failing to call and preside over EXCO sessions as mandated by the Senate, being inaccessible, and failing to obtain the union account’s signatories.
As a result, the Senate asked Buhari to give over the union’s business and all records in his possession to his Vice, Rasheedah Aroke, pending the outcome of an ongoing committee probe.
Additionally, he was warned not to be seen around the SUG Secretariat or have access to the union’s documents.
The suspension was resolved during a plenary session following a motion moved by Senator Emmanuel Jeremiah Ablaba and seconded by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business, Senator Abdulkareem Anzaku.
