Olatunji-Bello, represented by her deputy (Academic), Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan, made the promises on Friday at the matriculation ceremony of the university’s new part-time students for the 2023/2024 academic session.
reports that more than 500 students were formally admitted into the School of Part-Time Studies of LASU at the ceremony.
The vice-chancellor said that LASU management would not relent in ensuring security in and around the university.
“We have put in place adequate security measures. I urge you to make the best use of your time here, at LASU.
“Take advantage of all the resources available to you.
“Engage with your peers in meaningful discussions, participate in extra-curricular activities.
“Above all, strive for excellence in everything you do,” Olatunji-Bello said.
She said that the university had zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence.
“The zero tolerance informed our decision to establish the Directorate of Response and Preventive of Sexual and Gender Based Violence.
“Do not keep silent when you are harassed or assaulted in any manner.
‘If you see something, say something.
“As young men and women desirous of a bright future, it is expected that you abide by the rules and regulations of the university and be committed to your studies,” she said.
Prof. Danoye Oguntola-Laguda, Director of School of Part Time Studies, LASU, urged the new students to shun vices, ungodly peer pressure and depraved characters.
Oguntola-Laguda said that the students should be ready to play their parts in ensuring their successes as undergraduates of the university.
“We encourage you also to play your part by being hardworking, focused and dedicated to your studies.
“By the end of your programme in the university, you will be expected to go out into the world to be positive change agents that will be the pride of the university, Lagos State and the nation.
“We are aware of the challenges that confront you, and we are doing all things possible to overcome the challenges,” he said.
Oguntola-Laguda said that the school of part time studies had a total of 3,875 students for 100, 200 and 300 levels.
“In addition to admission with WAEC/GCE/GCE ‘O’ Level results into a five- year programme, the directorate equally admits, for this academic session, candidates with national diploma as direct entry students for a four-year programme,” he said. (NAN)
