Alumni associations, veritable tool for school development – Anambra Speaker




AKWA (Sundiata Post) – Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, has described Alumni Associations as veritable instruments for the growth and development of various higherinstitutions.Udeze said this while hosting the National Executive Officers of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Alumni Association.The information is contained in a press release by Mr Emma Madu, Press Secretary to the Speaker, which was made available to journalists in Awka on Friday.Udeze commended the executives for their courtesy call on him, and thanked the team for acknowledging the good work of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra.“Soludo is doing great in the state in terms of infrastructural developments and wellbeing of the citizenry,” Udeze said.He appreciated their promise to support the governor in achieving all his developmental programmes for the state.The release noted that the Speaker is an Alumnus of the University.He advised the team to make a mark in the University by watching over the Institution and liaising with the school management for optimal development.He assured them that the House of Assembly will look into the law establishing the university, enacted 24 years ago with a view to updating the necessary contents.Udeze urged the stakeholders of the University to contribute their quota towards the infrastructural development and other needs of the institution as part of their support to government.He enjoined the staff and students of the university to appreciate Soludo’s efforts in repositioning the institution by ensuring that peace reigns in and around the university at all times.Earlier, the National President of the Association, Dr. Dubem Oguegbu, said the visit was to intimate the Speaker on their resolve to partner the state government in its development efforts.Oguegbu said that the body will give maximum support to Soludo’s development agenda in the state as a union.He appealed to relevant authorities to include members of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Alumni Association in the Governing Council of the institution.Oguegbu said that the body needs a functional Secretariat for the Association to enable them contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of the University.The release noted that the National Vice President, South-East of the Association, Mr Cheta Nwegwu, revealed that the association planned to hold an event to showcase the body to outside community.
