Plateau University suspends academic activities following recent attack

Plateau University, Bokkos, has suspended academic activities for ten days following the death of a second-year student.

Mr Yakubu Ayuba, the institution’s Registrar, made this known in a statement issued Saturday in Jos.

On Thursday night, gunmen attacked Chikam, a neighbouring town to the university, killing a student named Dading Jordan.

Ayuba stated that the university had previously proclaimed a two-day mourning period in honour of the dead student.

“Following the sad incident that occurred in Plateau University, Bokkos, and the surrounding communities, management has taken the painful decision to close the University for 10 days with effect from Friday, April 19.

“This decision is to allow the security situation to improve and reduce human risk on the university community.

“Accordingly, the ongoing first semester examinations are hereby suspended and will resume on Thursday, May 2,” he said.

The registrar said buses had been provided to convey students who may be stranded from the university to Barkin Ladi.
