OBUBURU ( Sundiata Post) – Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River has urged newly sworn-in members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state to implement laudable projects in their host communities.
Otu made the call on Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Obubura.

Development, Otu restated his administration’s commitment to support the NYSC scheme in the state
He also pledged his administration’s commitment to provide a conducive environment for the corps members to serve their fatherland.
”This swearing-in and oath taking marks the beginning of your one year mandatory service to the nation.
”You are expected to use the period to contribute to the socio-economic development of the communities you will be posted to serve.
”Endeavour to carry out laudable community development projects, I mean projects that will stand you out at the end of your service period,” he said.
He further advised the corps members to use the period for personal sacrifices that would prepare them for the task of nation building.
In his opening address, Mr Andrew Zemoh, the NYSC Coordinator for Cross River, congratulated the corps members for being qualified to serve their fatherland after a successful tertiary education.
Zemoh said that the three-week orientation course was structured to prepare the corps members for the tasks ahead.
”During the course, you will be exposed to drills and agility manoeuvres. There will also be leadership training, lectures on security and teaching assignments.
”The orientation course will also expose you to training in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development,” he said.
The coordinator said that the programmes were aimed at preparing the corps members physically and mentally for post orientation life.
He thanked the Otu-led government for its support to the scheme, especially the recent intervention on the multiple-purpose hall and the collapsed part of the perimeter fence.
Zemoh urged the governor to assist the scheme to renovate the hostels and provide another borehole to address the water challenge in the camp. (NAN)
